A Mini Vacay for Wedding Guests in Memphis Tennessee

A Mini Vacay for Wedding Guests

in Memphis Tennessee

Memphis seems to be a place a lot of people travel to for weddings. And by golly, it is a great place to visit! Here are some fun things to do while you are here!

Bass Pro Shops Pyramid

Definitely, a must-see, whether you’re big on hunting and fishing or not! It’s the 10th largest pyramid in the world, and it’s got a bowling alley, two restaurants, a swanky hotel, and all the Bass Pro gear you could ever need. Plus, you can take an elevator to the top for a gorgeous view of the city. There are tons to do in this space alone, and if you’ve ever wanted to try fried alligator, they’ve got it on the menu.

Graceland

The former of The King himself, you can walk the same halls that Elvis Presley did back in his heyday. There are different tour options which include the house, the grounds, a museum of his cars, and his two private airplanes. For anyone who’s a big Elvis fan, this is definitely the place to see! (You can also order a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich or ride the pink limo to Marlowe’s for some classic barbecue.)

Sun Studio

Also known as The Birthplace of Rock ‘N’ Roll, Sun Studio is famous for recording such artists as B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis. You can see some classic memorabilia, hear old stories and recording outtakes, and even stand where these famous musicians once stood and recorded their hits.

Beale Street

Some of Memphis’ most famous spots are on this well-known street. Around since the 1900s, there’s a reason it’s called America’s Most Iconic Street. Bars, restaurants, music venues, and more. There’s never a dull moment downtown, but especially not when you’re on Beale!

Memphis Zoo

Did you know the Memphis Zoo is only one of four zoos in the U.S. that has giant pandas? That’s right! You may come to see those cute creatures, but stay for all the others. The Zoo always has fun exhibits, beautiful scenery, and seasonal activities that are great for the whole family. (Depending on which time of year you’ll be around, see if you can stop by for Zoo Boo, Zoo Lights, or even Zoo Brew!)

Peabody Hotel

You may have heard of the famous Peabody Ducks, but you truly haven’t lived until you’ve seen them. Twice daily, the ducks travel from the rooftop to the lobby fountain via the elevator, with a Bellman escort. And yes, it’s as cute as it sounds. You can also dine at the Capriccio Grill inside the hotel, and it’ll definitely hit the spot for all the Southern comfort foods you’ve been craving!

Museums

Memphis has a TON of museums, and they all range in diversity. Whether you want a fun afternoon with the kids or a learning experience about the past, Memphis has so much to offer!

  • Pink Palace Museum: History, science, and nature encompass this amazing space, and it’s got a planetarium!

  • Stax Museum of American Soul Music: The birthplace of soul music lets you visit the history of Stax Records!

  • National Civil Rights Museum: Explore the history of the civil rights movement located at the Lorraine Hotel, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. tragically lost his life.

  • Mississippi River Park and Museum: Located at Mud Island, you can learn about the history of the Mississippi River, riverboats, and engineering!

  • Brooks Museum of Art: The oldest and largest art museum in the state of Tennessee, it houses many amazing collections from some of the most artistic periods in time.
