Wedding Insurance 101

Wedding Insurance

In light of some current situations, I wanted to throw out this PSA. Here's a bit of information on wedding insurance to help you decide whether or not you want to purchase coverage. However, we highly recommend that you at least look into it!

When it comes to events, there are generally two types of insurance:

Wedding Cancellation Insurance

Wedding cancellation insurance provides protection from lost deposits or non-refundable payments and covers your wedding against unforeseen circumstances or extreme situations that might cause postponement or event cancellation, such as:

  • Vendor Bankruptcy

  • Accident or Illness

  • Extreme Weather (hurricanes, flooding)

  • Fire

  • Military Deployment

Cancellation insurance also protects you against financial loss if the event goes on but you have a glitch along the way"

  • Lost wedding rings

  • Vendor no-shows

  • Lost or damaged wedding gifts

  • Lost photographs

  • Damage to your wedding gown

  • etc.

For the most part, you can select the amount of coverage you would like, but generally, insurance companies will recommend coverage specific to what you expect to spend on your wedding. Cancellation Insurance policies start at $130 and up.

Liability Insurance

Some venues require that you purchase liability insurance. Liability insurance helps protect you if someone causes property damage to the venue or if someone gets injured at your event. Policies start at $75 and up.

You can find more detailed information and pricing on the websites listed below. Insurance agents are the most knowledgable on the policies they provide, so they'll be the best source of additional information. Please direct any questions or concerns you have to them directly. You can also speak with your personal insurance agent to see if they offer wedding or event insurance.
